Hormone Therapy and Your Heart

Hormone therapy may be part of long term good cardiovascular health and overall heart health.

Hormones that are most impactful on your heart heath include estrogen, testosterone (even for women!), thyroid, and cortisol.

The way each of these hormones affect heart health based on current research has been a bit confusing, and some studies contradict each other. It is important to work with someone who can evaluate all your risks and benefits.

Hormone therapy will never be the only strategy for heart health, so you cannot assume benefit if you haven’t had a complete work up.

Some studies have shown no harm, but no benefit, meaning that worry about complications of heart disease from menopausal hormone therapy should not deter you from using hormone therapy for it’s other benefits.

Women with hormone therapy have fewer sleep and depression problems; just curing these issues is heart protective in some studies. So it may be a secondary, not a primary benefit of hormone therapy that a women can expect more heart health.

Come and get hormone evaluation and see if there may be a type of therapy right for you. Or if hormone therapy is not right for you, what are your alternatives.!
