The amount of many chemicals such as types of
acids, different amounts of a chemical butyrate, and different metabolic
biproducts such as types of fatty acids show specific patterns in men verses
women. The new science of metabolomics (the studies of metabolism in our body)
thus shows differences between men and womn
These metabolic differences are thought to be
the cause of problems like interstitial cystitis or bladder pain diseases which
occur in females 9 times as often as in men
Women have a greater variety of bugs in their
urine than men do
Women carry more bacteria in their urine than
men do, most women have at least 2-3 and up to 49 different bacteria at all
times in their urine, women with overactive bladder have up to 59 different
bacteria in their urine at all times
Female urine will contain many of the bacteria
normally in the female vagina
Microbiome, or the normal bacteria in the urine
of anyone varies by age as well as hormone status
Scientist think that eventually they will have
to consider sex when looking at ways to analyze urine, but we aren’t quite
there yet.
