Morning After Pill Emergency Contraception

The Morning After Pill (MAP), also known as Emergency Contraception (EC), is now:

• Offered over the counter for women over age 18.
• Available by prescription only if under age 17.
• Available via telephone consultation.
• $29 fee for telephone consultation, which must be paid via credit card (Visa, Mastercard, DiscoverCard).
• Covered by Illinois Department of Public Aid (Medicaid). You must have a valid Medicaid card and be seen in the office for consultation.

Ideally, EC should be started within 3 days after unprotected sex, but can be taken up to 5 days post-intercourse. Advanced prescriptions for those patients age 17 and under are available; this will allow you to have EC readily available for emergency situations.
